name: Vincent Valentine
canon: Final Fantasy 7 (Rebirth)
age: Appears 27. Actually 57
canon point: End of FF7 Rebirth
history: https://finalfantasy.fandom.com/wiki/Vincent_Valentine
abilities:

Combat Skills - Vincent is a capable fighter, relying on his gun rather than engaging in close combat. He can use different firearms with ease from his Turks training. Although he doesn't prefer close combat, he can fend for himself to some extent and is fast, which helps him dodge and move into more favorable positions.

Gravity Manipulation - The Chaos within him allows for air movement and levitation to an extent. Mostly, this is used to manipulate his own movement through the air. For example, he can use this to jump incredible heights, dash forward quickly, or slow his descent. This ability is used on himself, not others.

Transformation - Vincent is the host body for an ancient weapon called Chaos, and as a result, it allows him to transform into various beasts. Presently, his transformation will be limited to his first limit break, Galian Beast. It resembles a giant minotaur and is incredibly strong, able to throw large, heavy objects with ease. It can also leap great heights and fight using its brute strength or abilities, which includes a roar that can disorient others and a fireball it can spit from its mouth. When in this form, Vincent is not entirely in control of himself as the beast takes over, but he is much stronger and more resilient.

Immortality - Chaos is an eternal entity, and now that it's inside of Vincent, he is also immortal. He cannot die from natural means. Removing Chaos may be the only way to ensure his death.

Regeneration - Along with his immortality, Chaos imbues Vincent's body with regenerative abilities. He still bears scars from the initial experiments conducted on him that placed Chaos within him, evident from the small scar under his left eye, but if injured, he will recover. This regeneration also allows him to live without necessities like food or sleep. He can and chooses to sleep as part of his penance, but it's not required.

Heightened Senses – Due to the genetic modification that was performed on him and the Chaos Eye that is his left eye, Vincent has keener senses than the average human. He’s the first to hear the ghostly sounds in Shinra Mansion during a mission there, and he’s able to hear the party speaking through the walls as they leave Shinra mansion. His left eye is unique in that it shows the Chaos entity inside of him and emits light. Vincent’s preference for the darkness and the night also suggests he can operate in low-light atmospheres.

Protomateria - Although this is not a materia Vincent directly uses, this materia planted inside of his body allows him some control over the Chaos entity. Were it removed, he would have no control over himself. He would possibly lose his sanity and what is left of himself to Chaos.

personality: (596 words)

It's easy to misinterpret Vincent's personality the first time. It may even seem as if he has no personality but being quiet and introverted does not mean one lacks a personality or even feeling.

One of the most defining parts of him is how heavily Vincent shoulders the guilt for his "sins", as he calls them. It all stems back thirty years ago, to a time when he worked as a Turk and bodyguard to two scientists, Lucrecia Crescent and Hojo. Although Vincent developed feelings for Lucrecia, she rejected him and chose Hojo, which led to the experimentation on their unborn son, Sephiroth. Due to his solitary nature and the pain of rejection, Vincent stood by as the experiments were conducted. When he finally stood up to Hojo and voiced his feelings, it was too late. This guilt over allowing evils to be committed in his presence weighs down on Vincent and continues to impact his choices, such as locking himself away for thirty years as penance, as well as choosing to leave Shinra Mansion and help a group dedicated to stopping Sephiroth from destroying the world.

Because he often chooses to remain physically distant, even from those he's traveling with, one might think Vincent does not care about others. That's far from the truth. He's more comfortable away from people, but he's always watching over them. When the party went into the Temple of the Ancients to retrieve the black materia, Vincent remained outside, but not for long. He tailed the party without their knowledge, keeping an eye on things. When the Turks were defeated by Cloud and company inside the temple, Vincent appeared before them and encouraged them to live. And when the temple was crumbling down, Vincent is the one who had an exit path ready for everyone's escape. Vincent is not the sort of hero that stands out front, but he swoops in when someone needs him because he cares.

Other aspects of his personality are evident depending on the situation he's in, as well. For instance, an example of gentle humor occurred when he teased Barrett about being afraid of the rumored ghosts haunting Shinra Mansion. One might also say he displayed humor when he suggested sleeping in the decorative coffin in the hotel lobby of the Haunted Hotel at the Gold Saucer (though there's a good chance he meant it, too). And during the performance of Loveless, there was clearly emotion shining in Vincent's eyes at the end of the performance. The large, open books in his chamber also suggest a love for reading/literature, further hinting at his sensitive side.

Finally, there are some instances where stronger emotions are conveyed. When Barrett suggested the 'female scientist' who did experiments in Shinra Mansion must have been a terrible person, Vincent quickly denied Barrett's words. Even Barrett noticed the sudden shift in Vincent's tone and said he must have “struck a nerve”. And upon first meeting Cloud, when he was ordered to release Cait Sith, Vincent's reply was defiant. Clearly, there are moments that can get under Vincent's skin. When a subject is touchy for him, he has a tendency to shut others out, but this can change as trust develops.

Overall, Vincent's true self exists, but it's not always easy to discover. Buried deep beneath the surface are a lot of traumas inflicted from the events of his past, the experimentation conducted on him by Hojo, and the unrelenting guilt he feels. However, along with that is a quiet confidence and a person who cares, even if it's difficult to see.
